Product Marketing Manager

We are seeking a Product Marketing Manager for our custom gift and photo imaging brands Unisub and ChromaLuxe. At Universal Woods, you will be part of a global team responsible for product planning, delivery, and marketing throughout the product lifecycle. You will develop a vision and roadmap for the product based on input from internal stakeholders, customers, market research and industry insight. The Product Manager role ultimately has responsibility for full life-cycle product management including innovation, improving the margin of existing products including cost reductions, price increases, etc.

Diagnostic Information Gathering: Identify the information needed to clarify a situation, seeking information from appropriate sources, and using skillful questioning to draw out the information, even when others are reluctant or unskilled at disclosing. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations. Ability to learn/ understand somewhat technical aspects of product category from a manufacturability and engineering perspective. Understanding of key elements of Profit/Loss statement for category. Proven experience in full lifecycle product management; experience in consumer goods.

Persuasive Communication: Plans, delivers oral and written communications that are impactful and persuasive with their intended audiences. Identifies and presents information and data that will have a strong effect on others. Creates and presents information upwards using effect graphics, slides, examples and analogies that display information clearly, precisely and with high impact. Strong negotiations skills.

  • Research the market, understand the competition and then set direction for the product portfolio including new opportunities, cost or margin improvement programs, product reliability improvements and improved consumer communication opportunities. Company utilizes for on-demand consumer insight research.
  • Work in a dynamic environment with a cross-functional team including members from sales, sourcing, engineering and manufacturing.
  • Manage 3rd party resources such as research and design firms.
  • Build commercialization plans and improve consumer facing communications.
  • Prepare and present project proposals and status updates to upper management.
  • Assess market and determine unmet product needs for product portfolio
  • Utilization of market research tools, data analysis, VOC to make sound, strategic decisions on NPD
  • Translate identified market needs into new product specifications completing Business Rational Documents (BRD) with robust business cases including product specifications, pricing and market positioning and target cost and margin requirements.
  • Manage product from initial development through all stages in New Product Development gate process to product launch. Includes multiple presentations to senior management for approvals at key gates.
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings including personnel from program management, industrial design, new product development engineering, sourcing, quality and manufacturing as the business need representative and marketing lead for the program. Lead with positive motivation and create a productive work environment for team.
  • Review, understand and summarize competitive product/landscape with a constant finger on the pulse of the industry
  • Conduct consumer research, where appropriate, to understand their needs and requirements
  • Keep abreast of advanced technologies relevant to category design and development.
  • Maintains market position of products by managing existing product lines and competitive market information.
  • Provides 3-year road map for what “could be” in listed category
  • Represents use profile for the product in application and ensures appropriate test methods are applied to all product development activities and that testing outputs align with product plans and engineering goals.
  • Works with engineering and purchasing teams to ensure issues are resolved.
  • Utilizes vendor resources and expertise in product development
  • Manages project budgets and prepares financial analysis reports for top management.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks.
  • Occasional travel to visit dealers in US and Canada.


  • Four-year college degree in related discipline.
  • 5 years of progressive responsibility in product management for consumer products company
  • Proven ownership of full life cycle of products, both strategic and tactical responsibilities. Has not relied on outside expertise to achieve goals.
  • Strong new product development experience, trained in environment with excellent NPD

  • Work place conditions The employee frequently is required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee will frequently use a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and viewing a computer screen. May work in shared work space and must be able to communicate on the telephone with background noise. Muse to travel by car, mass-transit, by air on occasion to conduct studies, meet with customers, dealers, consumers.
