Substrate Options for Unisub Sublimatable Coatings

Unisub coatings are 100% solid inert polyester urethane acrylates cured with an electron beam. The
coatings are designed to combine a high quality imageable surface with UV blockers to minimize ink
fading, excellent scratch resistance, as well as abrasion resistance equal or better than that found
in typical UV coatings.

These coatings are available in both gloss (85 degree) and matte (30-35 degree) finish and can be applied to a variety of substrates. Substrates can generally be finished one or two sides and a protective film (which must be removed prior to sublimation) can be applied. Stock Substrates include: > Fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) in a .080 thickness > 1/8" and 1/4" hardboard > Standard MDF in thicknesses ranging from 1/4" - 1 1/4" > Aluminum in .030 and .040 thicknesses > Steel in a .025 thickness > Cement board in a 6mm thickness > Phenolic laminate (similar to Formica) in a .050 thickness We can, in addition, procure specialty products to provide a wider level of options for specialty or architectural applications. These would include: > Fire rated MDF - available from Medite, this MDF available in 1/2" and 3/4" thicknesses with a Class A fire rating. It is also formaldehyde free. > Medex MDF - a formaldehyde free, moisture resistant board. Aluminum and FRP sheet can also be attached to honeycomb cores to provide lightweight panel construction options. Depending on the honeycomb materials, this may need to be done after the sheets are sublimated as the honeycomb may not be able to stand up to the heat and pressure required in the sublimation process. In general terms, the coatings and sublimation process improve the surface properties of the materials but do not significantly change the underlying physical properties of the substrate themselves. Fire ratings - We would expect the fire rating, based on our experience with other EB coatings on materials, to generally follow the fire ratings on the underlying materials. In all cases where a specific application requires it we will provide samples for testing to determine a specific rating for specific substrate.
